Friday Night Date with Jonathan from The Mythology Trilogy

Hi, guys and welcome to a new blog feature called Friday Night Date! This feature will be hosted once a month on a Friday, here on In My Secret -Book- World were I will be interviewing one of our most loved book boyfriends.

This month, my date is Jonathan from the Mythology Trilogy by Helen Boswell. He is nice, he is polite and he's a good. All these are things I usually hate in my book boyfriends, but as soon as I met him in the first book and he's had my heart. His mysteriousness coupled with everything else makes me just sigh wistfully every time he is mentioned. I absolutely adore him and after this, so will you.

Me: Hi, Jonathan! Thank you so much for agreeing to this date with me! I have to admit, I love you and I can't wait to get you on a more personal level.

Jonathan: Thank you for having me. I’m honoured to be here.

Me: If you could get naughty with a celebrity, who would it be? Isn't this question just the perfect ice breaker or what?

Jonathan: Ha! The perfect icebreaker indeed. *ponders* I would have to say…Zooey Deschanel

Me: Did I tell you that I ask lots of weird questions? No? Well, I do, and I want to know what you would do if you were a woman for one day.

Jonathan: Hmm, this is not the weirdest question I’ve been asked, but it’s close. I suppose I would get my girlfriends together and have a big spa day. ;)

Me: If I were to ask the person who knows you best, what would they say your best and worst qualities are?

Jonathan: My best quality and worst quality would be the same – I’m empathic, meaning I can sense the emotions of those around me. I would say it’s both a blessing and a curse, and even after 500 years, I’m still not quite sure when I should act on it and when I should leave it alone.

Me: What's your pet peeve?

Jonathan: Cell phones. It was bad enough when they first came out, but now everyone resembles a member of the zombie apocalypse because of them. As you might imagine, it makes it most inconvenient when trying to make eye contact with people to measure their souls.

Me: Did you know that I'm great at keeping secrets? You can totally tell me what crime you would commit if you could get away with it and I promise I won't tell.

Jonathan: Ah, well, that is very kind of you. I have no desire to commit any crime at the moment, but I have killed people in the past. Now you must promise you won’t tell my secret.

*zips lips and throws away the key*

Me: And since we're talking secrets, what is your guilty pleasure?

Jonathan: Speed. I love fast cars. Some might even presume to call me reckless, but you wouldn’t, would you? Shall we go for a drive later?

*I so wouldn't. I'm all up for some speed with you*

Me: So much of your past is a mystery to us, so tell me about your childhood. Did you have an imaginary friend?

Jonathan: Ah, I think you will learn much about my past in the third and final book of the Mythology series, but not as much about my childhood. As you know, I grew up in 16th century France, which was a very unsettled time. I had an older brother and a younger sister, but my sister died from an illness when she was seven, and my brother died in the French Guerres de religion, or Wars of Religion. I suppose I always pretended they were still with me even in death, so you could call them my imaginary friends.

*Awww!* *Wipes tears*

Me: If you could go back in time and undo, or do, something, what would it be?

Jonathan: That, my dear, is a most difficult question. I wouldn’t change the circumstances of my death because it would have impacted the future too much. I suppose if I had to choose one thing, I wish I would have known all of my descendants better instead of keeping my distance.

Me: What is the worst thing somebody walked in on you doing?

Jonathan: Decapitating someone. Granted it was a demon, but the person walking into that did not know this.

Me: Describe a perfect day in your life.

Jonathan: Ah, my perfect day consists of coffee, music, and lots of time with my love interest (no spoilers). Despite my dark past, I am quite the romantic at heart.

Me: If a woman wanted to catch your attention, what should she do?

Jonathan: *chuckles* According to my love interest (no spoilers), I am terrible at noticing when a woman wants to receive my attentions. A good swift punch should do it.

Me: We're at the end of the first part of our date, and I've asked you lots of questions. I hope you're not exhausted yet. We still have a bit more to go, and now is your only chance to ask me anything you want.

Jonathan: As you wish. Aseel, I can tell that you are very empathetic to others, and would make quite the ideal candidate for a guardian. If you could give your life up for another, would you, knowing that it would mean an immortal life of servitude? And if you say yes, I would be happy to be your mentor.

Me: Well, if it means I'd have an eternity to stalk you and have you as my mentor, I'd totally do it.

Me: Alright, it's time for the Quickie!

Me: T-shirts or button downs?

Jonathan: Button downs

Me: Cars or bikes?

Jonathan: Cars

Me: Pop or rock?

Jonathan: Rock, I suppose, though I like all types of music.

Me: Football or soccer?

Jonathan: Soccer

Me: Blond or brunette?

Jonathan: Blond

Me: Comedy or horror?

Jonathan: Horror

Me: France or Italy?

Jonathan: France, of course

Me: This is it! Thank you so much Jonathan, for taking the time off your busy schedule to do this with me. I have a great time, and I hope you did too!

Jonathan: I had a splendid time. Thank you for hosting the interview!
