ARC Review: Epiphany by Christina Jean Michaels

Title: Epiphany
Series: Legacy of Payne #1
Author: Christina Jean Michaels
Genre: NA, Romance, Paranormal
Publisher: Self-published
Publication Date: July 17th, 2013

Summary (Goodreads):

“I had my first psychic dream when I was nine. Psychic implied power, and powerful wasn’t a word I’d use to describe myself. I couldn’t foretell the future or conjure visions at will, but I couldn’t think of a more fitting word to describe what I sometimes saw in my dreams.”

For 23-year-old Mackenzie Hill, tossing her life down the garbage disposal is easy after a painful incident shatters her life. Her heart is bleeding, and moving to Watcher’s Point is a chance to start anew, only she isn’t prepared for the guy who walks out of her dreams and into the flesh. Literally . . . because she’s been dreaming about this sexy stranger for years.

Mackenzie is even less prepared to face the dark nature of her dreams. They’ve turned disturbingly gruesome, full of blood and murder, and when they begin to coincide with the media’s headlines, she and Aidan realize her visions might be the key to stopping a madman from killing again.

Only Aidan has painful secrets of his own, and perhaps the biggest danger of all is falling for him.

Approximately 87,000 words. Epiphany is a new adult, romantic suspense novel with light paranormal undertones. ***Mature content warning for sexy adult situations, language, and disturbing subject matter.***

My Thoughts:

**An eARC was provided by author in exchange of an honest review.**

I've had this book for a while now, and before that it was one of the books I was most excited to read. The synopsis sounded dark and mysterious and I was very intrigued and couldn't wait to dive into it.

Epiphany follows twenty-three year old Mackenzie who's moved to a new town to escape a tragedy in her past. Plagued by dreams of murder and blood, she doesn't expect the man she'd fallen in love with through her dreams to walk into her life. But he's hiding secrets, and with their relationship growing so is the danger and the realization that Mackenzie's dreams are very real, and that they might just be the target of the murderer.

I enjoyed this book. It was mysterious with secrets not revealed in the beginning of the book like in many other books. I liked having to think about everything and trying to work out who the killer was and what happened in Mackenzie's past before she escaped to Watcher's Point. It kept me on my toes with the suspense and it was what kept me reading even when there were times when I didn't want to.

I had a problem with how fast Aiden and Mackenzie's relationship progressed. I absolutely hate insta-love, and while what was between Aiden and Mackenzie wasn't really insta-love, it was close enough for it to annoy me. Aiden had his own baggage, and he'd barely survived his tragedy and is now hell bent on revenge and yet right about in the middle of the book his purpose is more about protecting Mackenzie than getting revenge. I have nothing against the hero wanting to protect the heroine, in fact, I just love protective males, but not when it happens very fast and just doesn't feel real or fit in with everything going in, which is what happened in Epiphany. Aiden had just recently gone through something horrible and it didn't make any sense that in just that short of time he'd be so over it. That made me roll my eyes a lot while reading the book, because it felt very cheesy, and I don't like cheesy.

My problem with Mackenzie was how she handled things. She cried a lot and there was a moment in the end where her secrecy was very uncalled for and just made want to strangle her. Even though I kind of understood why she didn't want to face Aiden after the big twist that happened near the end, and believe me it was one helluva of a twist, I felt like it would have cleared things a lot sooner.

All in all, I really enjoyed this book. It was well-written and the mystery and suspense will keep you at the edge of your seat reading as fast as you can to figure out what happened in the past, who the killer is and then the big OMG-moment will make you gasp and pray it wasn't true.

Swoon Thursday #2

Swoon Thursday is a HOT meme the girls over at YA Bound created. Here's how it works:

From the book you’re currently reading, or one you just finished, tell us what made you SWOON. What got your heart pounding, your skin tingling, and your stomach fluttering.

Shout it out on Twitter with the hashtag #YABound, post it here in the comments, or grab the adorable button above and share it on your blog! We want to know!

My swoon this week if from Epiphany by Christina Jean Michaels:

"We stood inches from each other, our lips parted and breaths growing shallow as the air between us shifted. My mouth veered up on its own—my body acting on pure instinct—and met him half way. His kiss was tentative at first, a soft tease that warmed my mouth and made me ache. He swept his fingers into my hair, and I moaned as he pulled me closer. His touch, his kiss . . . every part of him spoke to me, unleashed something inside me that couldn’t be caged. My knees buckled, and I clutched his shirt to keep from melting to the floor."

Cover Reveal: Guardian by Courtney Cole

We are absolutely thrilled to bring you the Cover Reveal for Courtney Cole's GUARDIAN! GUARDIAN is a YA Paranormal Romance, and a book close to Courtney’s heart. It is being released on August 28th!

Sometimes, things that go bump in the night are real.

My name is Whitney Lane. I’m sixteen years old and at first, I thought I was crazy.
I kept seeing shadows move along walls, and hearing whispers around corners, but whenever I looked, there was never anything there.
 Until one day, there was.
Our world isn’t what we think. There are things around us, good things, bad things, scary things.
Things that we tell ourselves aren’t real, but they are.
They’re very real, and they’re terrifying.
I’ve been swept up now, in a battle of good and evil, confused about love and what is supposed to be love, but isn’t. I don’t know what to think anymore. I can’t trust my emotions and I don’t know what is true.
There’s only one thing I know for sure.
 Nothing is what it seems.

About the author:
Headshot Courtney Cole is a novelist who would eat mythology for breakfast if she could. She has a degree in Business, but has since discovered that corporate America is not nearly as fun to live in as fictional worlds. She loves chocolate and roller coasters and hates waiting and rude people. Courtney lives in quiet suburbia, close to Lake Michigan, with her real-life Prince Charming, her ornery kids (there is a small chance that they get their orneriness from their mother) and a small domestic zoo.

Cover Reveal and Excerpt: Within These Walls by J.L. Berg

We're so excited to reveal the cover for WITHIN THESE WALLS by J.L. Berg, which releases August 18th!

WTW iBooks

Within these walls, he became my solace, my sanctuary and my strength.

I am not strong. I am just a survivor of circumstance.
Isn’t that what we all do? Survive?

Each of us has our own set of circumstances to muddle through. Mine are just more…complicated.

Born with a severe heart defect, I’ve seen the inside of a hospital room more than my own bedroom.

I was drowning, a prisoner to the illness that owned me, until he appeared. He thinks he’s blocked out the world with his tattoos and hard exterior, but I see the real Jude, the one he so desperately wants to forget.

But is he the answer to my prayers or will he break my already damaged heart forever?

My name is Lailah Buchanan, and this is our story of hope, redemption and sacrificing it all for the one you love.

Within these walls he became my solace, my sanctuary and my strength.

Like a white knight, he saved me from a life of gray and showed me a world full of color.
Within these walls, I gave myself to a man who said he would always fight for me.

Love me until the end of time.

But sometimes, not even love is enough when life gets in the way.
When your heart is already damaged beyond repair, what is there left to break?
Within these walls, I gave my less than perfect heart to the man I loved.

And then…he walked away.

Waiting on Wednesday #2

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

This week I'm waiting on:

Title: Burying WaterAuthor: K.A. TuckerGenre: NA, Romance, ContemporaryPublication Date: October 7th 2014 by Atria

The top-selling, beloved indie author of Ten Tiny Breaths returns with a new romance about a young woman who loses her memory—and the man who knows that the only way to protect her is to stay away.
Left for dead in the fields of rural Oregon, a young woman defies all odds and survives—but she awakens with no idea who she is, or what happened to her. Refusing to answer to “Jane Doe” for another day, the woman renames herself “Water” for the tiny, hidden marking on her body—the only clue to her past. Taken in by old Ginny Fitzgerald, a crotchety but kind lady living on a nearby horse farm, Water slowly begins building a new life. But as she attempts to piece together the fleeting slivers of her memory, more questions emerge: Who is the next-door neighbor, quietly toiling under the hood of his Barracuda? Why won’t Ginny let him step foot on her property? And why does Water feel she recognizes him?
Twenty-four-year-old Jesse Welles doesn’t know how long it will be before Water gets her memory back. For her sake, Jesse hopes the answer is never. He knows that she’ll stay so much safer—and happier—that way. And that’s why, as hard as it is, he needs to keep his distance. Because getting too close could flood her with realities better left buried.
The trouble is, water always seems to find its way to the surface.

I've read Ten Tiny Breaths and One Tiny Lie by this author, and I've adored both books, so I can't wait to read this one too. And I love how this book sounds! Mystery, romance and what sounds like a tortured hero? What's not to love?

What are you waiting on? Leave a link below and I'll stop by your blog!

ARC Review: Elite by Rachel Van Dyken

Title: Elite
Series: Eagle Elite #1
Author: Rachel Van Dyken
Genre: NA, Contemporary, Romance
Publisher: Forever Imprint Books
Publication Date: April 14th, 2013

Summary (Goodreads):
When I won the annual Eagle Elite College Scholarship lottery, I was thrilled. After all, my grandma had just died and I wanted to take care of my aging grandpa -- he couldn't be a farmer in Wyoming forever. And graduating from Eagle Elite meant opportunity.
But I wasn't counting on meeting Nixon.
Nor was I counting on the rules of the Elect.
1. Do not touch The Elect.2. Do not look at The Elect.3. Do not speak to The Elect.
And worst of all? Don't discover the secret they hide, because in the end, you may just realize... it's about you.
*This is a New Adult Book, blood, violence, cursing, sexual references, and drug use. Not recommended for those under 17.*

My Thoughts:

**An eARC was provided by publisher in exchange of an honest review.**

I've had this book for a while now, but I just now got around to reading it. The blurb is so mysterious and it made want to read this book all the more, so when I got the chance at reading again, it was one of my first choices.

This book is about Trace, an innocent girl who won a scholarship to an elite college but discovers that she is not welcome there on her first day. Nixon and his hot, rude and obnoxious friends make her life a living hell from the moment she sets foot on campus, but Trace is stubborn and won't let them walk all over her. The only person who seems to tolerate her is Nixon's twin sister, Monroe, who quickly takes her under wings and as Trace struggles to survive her new life, she discovers there's more to Nixon and his friends than she ever thought and that she might just be the center of all the secrets they're trying to hide.

When I started this book I had no idea what I was going to find, or what it really is about considering how vague the synopsis is. Really though, I loved how the blurb didn't just spoil the book like some books do and it just made me want to read as fast as possible to understand what was really going on. Dyken's writing made it very easy to keep reading. It was smooth, flowed perfectly and was filled with humor. I couldn't stop reading it.

Trace is one of those characters that one second you want to smack and the then you want to hug. Sometimes she was weak and cowered from Nixon and his gang of friends and it made me just want to shout at her to stand up to them, and there where others where she'd stand tall and don't take any crap from them. She felt real, a character I could relate to, because we all have our weak and strong moments and it made me love her.

Nixon however, I just wanted to smack most of the time. He was mean, rude and I couldn't help but hate him in the beginning. But I have a soft spot for assholes and badboys and he's both, so I couldn't help but love him too. During the second half of the book, he redeemed himself though, and then who he really is was revealed and BAM, the action starts. We are introduced to what really is going on in the school, who the leaders are and the true danger lurking under the facade of a prestige school.

I couldn't tear myself away from this book, and I can't wait to start the other books in this series. I really want to know what is going to happen, and where these characters I've come to love are heading. Though I'm dreading the outcome of the love-triangle, because there is one and it's what affected my rating of this book. The love-triangle was so sudden and popped up near the end of the book and I was just sitting there gaping because I was not expecting it and because I really hate love-triangles.

Nonetheless, I enjoyed this book very much and I want more of it. Dyken has a great writing style that is very gripping and makes it hard to stop reading.

Swoon Thursday #1

Swoon Thursday is a HOT meme the girls over at YA Bound created. Here's how it works:

From the book you’re currently reading, or one you just finished, tell us what made you SWOON. What got your heart pounding, your skin tingling, and your stomach fluttering.

Shout it out on Twitter with the hashtag #YABound, post it here in the comments, or grab the adorable button above and share it on your blog! We want to know!

My swoon is from Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover:

"“I just fell completely in love with you,” I say to her. I glance at Bridgette, who is still seated at the table. “Did you see it, Bridgette? Did you see me just fall in love with her?”Bridgette rolls her eyes, and I feel Sydney laugh. I look back down at her. “I did. Like twenty seconds ago. I fell completely in love with you.”She smiles and mouths her next words slowly so I can understand her. “I fell first.”When the last word passes her lips, I catch it with my mouth. Since the second I walked away from these lips, I’ve done nothing but think about the moment I would get to taste them again. She pulls me tightly against her, and I kiss her hard, then delicately, then fast and slow and every way in between. I kiss her every way I can possibly kiss her, because I plan on loving her every way I can possibly love her. Every single time we refused to cave in to our feelings in the past makes this kiss completely worth the sacrifices. This kiss is worth all the tears, all the heartache, all the pain, all the struggles, all the waiting. She’s worth it all. She’s worth more."

I read this book a few days ago and I haven't stopped raving about it since the moment I started it. Gosh, the feels and tears this book evoked in me are just... there really are no words, but if you've read a Colleen Hoover book before then you probably know what I'm talking about. And if you haven't, -WHY HAVEN'T YOU???- then you should definitely check her books out. She's awesome.

Now, tell me what you think of this swoony moment and leave me a link to you swoon and I'll drop by your blog!

Cover Reveal and Giveaway: Hard Knox by Nicole Williams

Hi guys! Today, I have a very hot cover for a book I can't wait to read! It's by an amazing author that I just love, so take a look at the cover below and tell me what you think of it!

The book is...

A New Series by NYT Bestselling Author Nicole Williams

The Outsider Chronicles, #1

New Adult/Adult Contemporary

Releasing August 12, 2014

Cover designed by Okay Creations

Knox Jagger. The name inspires resent in every male at Sinclair University, want in every female, and contempt in Charlie Chase.
Charlie can be summed up in three words: independent, independent, and independent. To Charlie, Knox epitomizes everything that’s wrong with college males: prolific one-night stands, drunken senseless fights, and a body that hints at prioritizing gym time over study time.
As an up-and-coming writer for Sinclair University’s newspaper, Charlie’s tasked with getting to the bottom of who’s been dropping little white pills into girls’ drinks at parties. In an ocean of All-American boys sporting polo shirts and innocent smiles, Knox is the obvious suspect. As evidence piles up against the bad boy of Sinclair, Charlie becomes more and more certain it isn’t Knox. But when her drink is dosed at a party and she wakes up on Knox’s couch the next morning, Charlie’s left with more questions than answers when it comes to Knox Jagger.
How can Charlie ever hope to uncover the truth behind a guy so closed off he’s become . . .Hard Knox.

I’m the New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author of the CRASH series (HarperTeen, S&S UK), LOST & FOUND series, UP IN FLAMES (S&S UK), The EDEN TRILOGY, and a handful of others. Waiting on Wednesday #1

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

I'm waiting on:

Title: Stone Cold Touch
Series: The Dark Elements #2
Author: Jennifer L. Armentout
Genre: YA, Romance, Paranormal
Publication Date: 28th October 2014 by Harlequin Teen
Every touch has its price
Layla Shaw is trying to pick up the pieces of her shattered life—no easy task for a seventeen-year-old who’s pretty sure things can’t get worse. Her impossibly gorgeous best friend, Zayne, is forever off-limits thanks to the mysterious powers of her soul-stealing kiss. The Warden clan that has always protected her is suddenly keeping dangerous secrets. And she can barely think about Roth, the wickedly hot demon prince who understood her in ways no one else could.
But sometimes rock bottom is only the beginning. Because suddenly Layla’s powers begin to evolve, and she’s offered a tantalizing taste of what has always been forbidden. Then, when she least expects it, Roth returns, bringing news that could change her world forever. She’s finally getting what she always wanted, but with hell literally breaking loose and the body count adding up, the price may be higher than Layla is willing to pay…

I'm a huge fan of Jennifer L. Armentrout. I've read all of her books and every single one of them has been better than the one before. This series is absolutely one of my favorites, and I'm dying to get my hands on this book. Though I'm pretty terrified of reading it. I'm team Roth, duuuuh, he's amazing and that last sentence he said in the end of book one? Still imprinted in my head. The synopsis of this book suggest that the Zayne and Lyla relationship is going to be progressing and that she might forget all about Roth and it might just kill me. But knowing JLA she has some surprises up her sleeve and I can't wait to read it.

So, what are you waiting on? Leave a link in the comments and I'll drop by your blog!

Book Review: Mythology: The Wicked by Helen Boswell

Title: Mythology: The Wicked
Series: Mythology #2
Author: Helen Boswell
Publisher: Self- published
Publication Date: October 11th, 2013

Book two of the Mythology series.
A demon with a pure heart, Micah Condie lives his life by a code of ethics, but breaking that code may be the only way for him to survive. A supernatural entity in her own right, Hope Gentry would do anything in her power to protect her loved ones, but she may be the one who puts them in peril.
When the Demon Impiorum challenges the laws that keep guardians and demons in balance, ancient enforcers of justice intervene. Micah, Hope, and their mentor Jonathan become entangled in a conspiracy that will test even the deepest love and trust.
Someone will commit an act of betrayal. Someone will forever abandon a loved one.
Someone will enter THE WICKED.

My Thoughts:

**An e-copy was provided by author in exchange of an honest review**

Okay, so when I read the first book in this series, what I really loved about it was how action packed it was. Or so I thought until I read THIS ONE. Holly God, but Mythology: The Wicked never gave me a break. Even though it took me about two weeks to finish this book, I was never bored, I was just busy with school which is a pain in the butt (we have a different system than the US so our high school is more like college). I found myself sneaking in a few pages every time I had a break or when the teacher wasn't looking and I could never get enough of it. There was always something happening and in this second book, we delve deeper into the world Helen Boswell created, meeting essential characters and getting hit with new revelations all the time.

My favorite thing in this book was the fact that it's written from both Micah and Hope's POVs. I lurved it, absolutely lurved it. While I liked Micah in the first book, I wasn't his number one fan which changed in this book. Getting inside his head and looking at things his way made me see a new side to him, added with the sharper edge he was sporting in this book and I was really hooked (sorry Jonathan, I still love you). It was very important that we got a look inside Micah's head because things happened with him just as much as they did with Hope, if not more. There were a few things that he did and I didn't like or that I thought he should have told Hope about, but I kind of understood his thinking at the same time.

One thing in the first book that I wasn't a huge fan of, was Hope and Micah's relationship. I thought it was too sweet and kind of insta-love that I really hate in books. In this second book not only are the stakes higher, but things are hotter too. With the changes and things Micah was going through, his demon side was coming out more and there were definitely moments were I had to fan myself and that were not so sweet like they were in the first book.

To fans of this series, you should absolutely read this book because it only gets better and better, for those who haven't read it, you totally should. This is one series you don't want to miss. Helen Boswell knows how to capture her readers in a world full of danger and creatures like no other. Definitely a must-read.
